About

The words color and create have been synonyms to me since I can remember. Growing up, I had the opportunity to explore many different medias as a young, inspired artist and later got my formal education from Washington State University in design and architecture. I have had a love affair with textiles and sewing two pieces of cloth together that began at an early age, inspired by mother who designed and made beautiful garments for my sisters and me when we were growing up. She is an artist in her own right.

In the year 2000, I discovered quilt making as an expression of craft and art. I was drawn to the simple combinations of shape, form and color to create artful pieces that moved my soul. I knew then, that this would be my new focus for creative endeavors.

Some of my favorite pieces are those that I create in what I call an “intuitive and liberated construction” mode. I would characterize this as improvisational, making it up as I go along, also known as ‘winging it’ or sometimes just plain going for it! I usually do not know what the end result of a work in progress will be until I am there, and can call a piece finished or complete.  Some of the words that might describe my work are, contemporary, playful, simple, whimsical, and unplanned.

I am so fortunate to live and reside in a community of talented artists in Portland, Oregon who share my passion for fiber and sewing two pieces of cloth together. Inspiration often comes to me when I am experimenting with  new construction techniques that challenge my craft and skill. I can’t imagine not having this creative outlet in my life; it brings me great joy!
